The emotional season finale of This Is Us gives us our top TV song last week, playing through the end montage as we see Kate and Toby get married, intercut with scenes from Kate’s childhood.

This marks the second collaboration between English producer and songwriter Ed Tullett and Welsh songwriter Novo Amor. Their previous single, “Faux” has been featured in Shadowhunters and Pretty Little Liars. The duo are currently working on a full length album together.

Tullett has said, “‘Alps’ is a love song written from the sight of aftermath. Lyrically about wanting to revisit a past love, but knowing you’d be completely self-destructive if you did so. The track as a whole aims to conjure a sense of intensity, beauty and nostalgia.”

Novo Amor had this to say about the track: “Displaying how emotion can overpower reason, ‘Alps’ is about the fear of self-destruction and how we let ourselves kill what we set out to love.”

Last week also saw another song from This Is Us take the #10 spot on the February THR / Billboard Top TV Music Chart: Grey Reverend’s “Watch Me,” heard during the critical final moments of the infamous “Super Bowl Sunday” episode.

Fans who had been impatiently waiting for the unreleased cover recorded especially for the show were quick to buy and stream it when the This Is Us season 2 soundtrack was released last week.

The song is a callback to season one of the series, when Labi Siffre’s original was featured in the final, surprising moments of the pilot episode, and again as Jack and Rebecca imagine their dream home in S1E11. Originally released in the ’70’s, Music Supervisor Jen Pyken shared with us that she used Twitter to track down Siffre and license the song.

Along with Grey Reverend’s “Watch Me”, the soundtrack album included three additional previously unreleased tracks that were recorded especially for the show:

“Where I Belong” was written especially for the episode by Elise Davis and This Is Us composer Siddhartha Khosla. Chris Pierece and Khosla also penned season one’s breakout hit song, “We Can Always Come Back to This.”

Also featured is Chrissy Metz’s gripping performance of “Landslide,” Elton John’s “Madman Across The Water,” The National’s “The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness,” Eva Cassidy’s version of “Time After Time,” Father John Misty’s“Ballad Of The Dying Man,” Little River Band’s “Lonesome Loser,” Fleet Foxes’ “If You Need To, Keep Time On Me,” and several other songs heard on the show this season.

We’ve got a while to wait for season 3 of This Is Us, but music from the show will help get you through. There are two official compilation soundtracks, as well as an album of composer Siddhartha Khosla’s original score from This Is Us, all available below.
