Top TV Song Last Week: Tumbling Lights by The Acid

The premiere of HBO’s much-hyped Sharp Objects delivers our top TV song last week.

Tumbling Lights

by The Acid

from Sharp Objects Soundtrack · Season 1 · Episode 1 · Vanish

After roller skating home, the girls sneak upst…

The song has two featured uses in the premiere episode of Sharp Objects: in the beginning during a unique scene where a flashback transitions to present day, and again at the end as main character Camille listens to music in the bath. The song continues through the end credits.

Based upon the novel by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), Sharp Objects reunites director Jean-Marc Vallée with music supervisor Susan Jacobs, the team behind last year’s standout sensation from HBO, Big Little Lies. One of Tunefind’s most popular new shows of 2017, Jacobs took home the first ever Emmy for outstanding Music Supervision for her work on Big Little Lies.

Given the popularity of Sharp Objects right off the mark, it looks like Vallée and Jacobs have recreated their soundtrack magic. Once again heavily featuring diegetic music playing on screen from the likes of iPods, stereos, and bars, the varied soundtrack swings through genres and eras seamlessly. Just two episodes in, the series includes music by the likes of Franz Waxman, Ludovico Einaudi, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, Sylvan Esso, and LCD Soundsystem. (See Tunefind’s full soundtrack of Sharp Objects.)

Electronic band The Acid contribute to the soundtrack’s diversity with their eerie and atmospheric sound.  Featuring British DJ and record producer Adam Freeland; Californian producer, composer and professor of music technology Steve Nalepa; American singer/songwriter Jens Kuross; and Los Angeles-based Australian artist RY X, the band has previously released a self-titled EP, an album, and a soundtrack for indie film The Bomb.
