Top Composers of 2018
Here at Tunefind we’re looking back at some of the highlights from 2018, including the top movie soundtracks, top new TV shows driving music discovery, and most popular TV songs on Tunefind.
Sometimes the original score of a film or television show is so compelling that fans are inspired to learn more, and explore other tracks by that composer. These are the composers that were the most popular and inspired the most research and discovery on Tunefind in 2018.
The End of the F**king World was a huge Netflix hit this year and so was Graham Coxon, Blur frontman and composer for the series. Coxon also grabbed a spot on our top songs list with an original track written for the series.
Alexandre Desplat created original score for the 2018 films Operation Finale, The Sisters Brothers, and Kursk. But it was his work for Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs that had fans flocking to Tunefind.
Jade Vincent, Keefus Ciancia, and David Holmes make up the band Unloved, whose music (both existing and new, original songs) served as score for BBC America hit show Killing Eve.
Composer Gabriel Mounsey’s work on Lana Wachowski’s Sense8 launched him onto this list. Fans are still anxiously requesting his unreleased remixes and songs from the series.
Busy composer Mac Quayle was creating original score for Pose, American Horror Story, Mr. Robot, and 9-1-1. But it was his work on American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace that caused the biggest bump on Tunefind.
Alan Silvestri had a big year in 2018, composing for Avengers: Infinity War and Ready Player One. Silvestri’s compositions can also be heard in the recently released Welcome to Marwen.
Top movie soundtrack of 2018, Deadpool 2, featured score composed by Tyler Bates. He’s also responsible for the score of 2018 films The Public and The Spy Who Dumped Me, plus the tv adaptation of The Purge.
Ramin Djawadi’s 2018 credits include A Wrinkle in Time, Slender Man, and the Prime Original series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. But it’s Djawadi’s work for the sci-fi HBO series Westworld that had fans seeking out his music on Tunefind.
Credited with creating music for television series such as The Kids Are Alright, The Royals, and Runaways this year, Siddhartha Khosla’s high point comes from the NBC hit, This Is Us. Check out our interview with Khosla, where he took us behind the scenes on his work for the show.
Jeff Russo was very busy in 2018, composing for multiple tv shows including Altered Carbon and Lucifer, and tv mini-series Waco. He’s also credited with scoring the films Lizzie and Mile 22. But it was his score for Legion – plus the cover songs with show creator, Noah Hawley – that had fans in a frenzy on Tunefind. We talked with Jeff about his psychedelic score for Legion.
