Tunefind’s Top Sync Artists of 2018

Here at Tunefind we’re looking back at some of the highlights from 2018, including the top movie soundtracks, top new TV shows driving music discovery, and most popular TV songs on Tunefind.

Sometimes a sync is so good and a song so compelling that fans are inspired to learn more, and explore other tracks by that artist. These are the artists that were the most popular and inspired the most research and discovery on Tunefind in 2018.

The classic rock icons Led Zeppelin had a big moment in blockbuster film Thor: Ragnarok, but were also heavily featured in the HBO limited series Sharp Objects.

British singer  Rory Graham, better known as Rag’n’Bone Man, has been having a stellar past two years, with many awards and recognition, plus his hit single ‘Human’ getting a lot of sync love around the world.

Run the Jewels had a big year in blockbuster films like Black Panther, Venom, and Pacific Rim Uprising. Plus small screen hits like Black Lightning and YouTube Red series Impulse.

English singer songwriter Barns Courtney got a lot of play on shows like Love Island, Lucifer, and Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger. But it was the prominent placements of ‘Glitter & Gold’ in the opening credits and ‘Fire’ in the end scenes/credits of Harlan Coben’s Safe that launched him onto this list.

Snow Patrol will probably forever be associated with Grey’s Anatomy thanks to that show’s use of ‘Chasing Cars’ over the years (including a Spanish rendition this year), but the band got a boost from lots of prominent syncs in tv trailers/promos and America’s Got Talent.

Singer songwriter Ryan O’Neal, better known as Sleeping At Last, is a go-to artist for Grey’s Anatomy, but he also got a bunch of new fans thanks to a placement on British mega-hit reality show Love Island.

Tracks from Imagine Dragons’ latest album, Evolver, were absolutely everywhere this past year – movies, trailers, commercials, tv shows, video games… You name it, they sync’d it.

The Hot Damns lived up to their name with syncs on The Originals and Dynasty propelling them to the top. Not to mention fans clambering for the unreleased song ‘Bang Bang’ featuring Daisy Dash.

Code Black concluded the series with a number of songs recorded by the Five For Fighting frontman, including one of our most popular songs of the year.

Ruelle is everywhere in sync right now. To learn why, check out our artist spotlight: Ruelle’s Cinematic Sound Rules Sync.

Honorable Mention

We’ve got two artists coming in right below the top 10 who deserve a special mention. Both Michael Kiwanuka and Agnes Obel had extremely strong years in sync, following their breakout moments in Big Little Lies in 2017. Music supervisor Susan Jacobs won the first ever Emmy for Music Supervision for her work on Big Little Lies.
