Top TV Song: Phantom of the Opera Medley by Lindsey Stirling

The new Netflix series, The Umbrella Academy premiered last Friday and instantly took over Tunefind’s Trending Now chart, which tracks the most popular songs over the last 48 hours. It was no surprise when the show popped right up to the top of the chart for the entire week. Top TV Song last week goes to a rocking medley of songs from the iconic Phantom of the Opera.

Starting on a dark stage with a single spotlight, a woman walks on carrying her violin. The electric violin medley carries through a montage of introducing some of the superhero siblings of The Umbrella Academy. The mood and intensity changes as each song in the medley blends into the next and the siblings learn the grave news about their father. The song ends abruptly and the violinist is identified as Number 7, or Vanya, one of the siblings.

Lindsey Stirling released her arrangement of ‘The Phantom of the Opera Medley’ in July 2012 through her own label Lindseystomp Records. The medley merges ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Angel of Music’, ‘Think of Me’, and ‘The Music of the Night.’

Lindsey Stirling is a violinist, dancer, and performance artist. Stirling grew up in Arizona and began studying violin at five years old. She is best known for her YouTube videos and competing on America’s Got Talent season 5 in 2010. On AGT, Stirling showcased her unique performance style by dancing and playing violin accompanied by electronic backing tracks.

In 2012, she released her self-titled debut album of all-original material on her own Lindseystomp label. The album sold over 200,000 copies in the United States as an independent release. It was certified gold in Germany (selling over 100,000 copies there), Austria, and Switzerland.

Over the next few years, Stirling toured and played with a variety of collaborations. She released a pair of collaborative EPs and her sophomore album, Shatter Me, included other vocalists, debuting at number two on the album charts. Along with taking part in several new collaborations, Stirling spent most of 2014 and early 2015 on a massive world tour that took her across North America, through Europe, and into Oceania.

Stirling has earned two Billboard music awards for “Top Dance/Electronic Album.” Lindsey’s third studio album Brave Enough debuted at #5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart, and includes collaborations with ZZ Ward, Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, and Rivers Cuomo. Her collaboration with Andrew McMahon, ‘Something Wild’ was chosen as the theme song to the Disney 2016 reboot of Pete’s Dragon. Her sold out tours have produced critically praised concerts across the globe, spanning a wide range of continents including the U.S., Europe and South America.

In 2016, Lindsey released a memoir called “The Only Pirate at the Party” which debuted on the New York Times’ best-seller list. In October 2017, Stirling released her fourth studio album and first Christmas album, Warmer in the Winter, which included collaborations with Becky G., Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low, and Sabrina Carpenter.
