Ridings’ haunting vocals and soft piano begin as Jo and Teddy’s patient, Abby, is taken to surgery. She has been traumatized. To show their support for her, the female staff members of Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital line the hallway. The emotional chorus carries through this empowering moment as Abby is steered to the elevator. The moving melody and Ridings’ unique vocal tone heighten the emotional connection and continue through Abby’s surgery.

A hymn to lost love and regret, ‘Lost Without You’ explores the feelings of exposing deep-rooted pain and coming to terms with what it means to try to move on. Music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas

“To be a part of an episode so powerful and timely and important and utterly necessary was an enormous privilege to say the least,” said music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas. “Freya’s unforgettable, exquisitely beautiful yet painful track was the perfect accompaniment to the hospital staff (actually the female Grey’s Anatomy crew and Shondaland women) lining the hallway. Thank you to Freya Ridings and also to Erin McCarley for ‘Everywhere Ghosts Hide’ and Richard Walters for ‘I Won’t.’ These 3 songs were an essential part of the storytelling in an episode largely scored by silence.”

The 24 year old British singer/songwriter has been writing music since age 9. Ridings struggles with severe dyslexia and after her music teachers gave up trying to teach her, she had no choice but to teach herself. Shy and somewhat isolated as a child, Ridings first revealed her talents performing at an open mic when she was just 11 years old.

Ridings recalls, “I sang quite low for a little girl, I did this whole raspy thing. Suddenly, though, I’d found my own way. To this day, I still can’t believe I got up there. The whole room went crazy. And that was the moment where I thought: ‘Maybe I can take this thing that’s my own private thing, that I’ve done on my own, and actually share it with other people.”‘

She went on to focus on her music, attending BRIT school, following alums like Adele and Amy Winehouse. The multitalented artist has spent the last few years touring relentlessly hitting venues and festivals in the UK and US, writing new music throughout.

Ridings had her big break last year with the placement of ‘Lost Without You’ in UK reality series Love Island, a show that has helped launch a ton of new artists through high profile sync placements. The track charted #9 in the Official Charts and made Freya the #1 artist in Independent Singles and Shazam Chart in the UK. The song was released as a digital download on November 3, 2017 through Good Soldier Records and was included on Ridings’ debut EP You Mean the World to Me, released last month.

Last month’s Top TV song from Freya Ridings, a cover of ‘Maps’ by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, was a Tunefind first, having a double feature in both Grey’s Anatomy and The Resident in the same week. ‘Lost Without You’ was not only featured in Grey’s Anatomy last week, but within the past month it was placed in American Idol, Legacies and Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments – all TV music powerhouses that are introducing new fans around the world to this artist who is set to explode.
