During the end montage of the episode, Meredith shares her frustration that patients struggle to get basic medical care, and her plans to bring attention to the problem. Meredith has had a compelling drive to “fight a failing system” since last year’s legal issues, but this has always been a strong character motivation. The lyrics of ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ speak to her mission and echo the sentiment of Meredith possibly putting her medical license and life with her family on the line.

About this song, Grammer has said, “Don’t give up on me…a very simple idea but a very powerful one. I have had many moments in my life where I wouldn’t give up on someone else, where I believed in them when they didn’t believe in themselves. Hell I’ve had SUPER intense moments where I wouldn’t give up on myself. But the most powerful memories from my personal vantage point are when someone wouldn’t give up on me.”

He went on to say, “It is my sincere wish that for anyone who hears this song and is on the verge of giving up it will be another subtle nudge to keep going.”

Grey’s music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas told Tunefind, “We returned to Andy Grammer for a second time to synch his beautiful track ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ for the ending montage in this Season 16 episode.”

The previous placement Patsavas is referring to is the end montage of “Judgement Day”, season 14, episode 20. The song ‘Always,’ from Grammer’s 2017 album The Good Place, plays as various relationships are redefined.
