Farewell: Top TV Shows for Music Discovery that Ended in 2019
Here at Tunefind we’re looking back at some of the highlights from 2019, including the top movie soundtracks, top new TV shows driving music discovery, top tv syncs, and most popular artists on Tunefind. We have a lot of fun stuff to cover as we look back at highlights of film and TV music during 2019. But this is one sad note: A look back at some TV music powerhouse shows that aired their final episode this year. These shows are Tunefind fan favorites that have helped us discover thousands of new songs and artists over the past decade.
Music Supervisors: Jason Alexander, Rudy Chung
Over the past six season, HBO series Silicon Valley has been known for its bass-heavy rap or electronic end credits tracks. The series released an album with Mass Appeal Records, curated by Silicon Valley executive producers Mike Judge and Alec Berg and music supervisors Jason Alexander and Rudy Chung. It featured exclusive songs from season 4 as well as some tracks from previous seasons.

The CW series ran for 100 episodes and featured numerous musical guests including Britney Spears, Paulina Rubio and Gloria Estefan. Jane the Virgin featured original music by Emmy award nominated Kevin Kiner.

The Freeform superhero series follows two teens who become unlikely friends. The multitalented lead actors, Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, both had the chance to show off their singing talents with songs featured on the series. The soundtrack also featured The Siege, Ruelle, Milck and many others. Showrunner Joe Pokaski and music supervisor Jonathan Christiansen shared how composer Mark Isham helped kick off a music experiment to feature 17 versions of the same song, ‘In The Sweet By And By,’ in an episode from the final season.

Cult hit Mr. Robot stars Emmy and Oscar-winner Rami Malek and brought viewers on a trippy tour through the underbelly of secret hacker society, with a heavy dose of delusion to keep fans guessing. The mysterious world of hackers has been scored by composer Mac Quayle, who has released seven volumes of his popular score from the series. The USA series, Mr. Robot has also featured music from Grimes, Van She and OK Go, just to name a few.

HBO’s sports drama Ballers has had some big music moments over the past 5 season, including one top song from Australian music group RÜFÜS DU SOL. With a cult following for the big end credits music moments, Ballers features a mix of established names and new artists you need to know.

Marvel’s The Punisher from Netflix featured intense and emotional songs to underscore this dark superhero story. Despite only lasting two seasons, the show had a loyal following on Tunefind, where fans loved to ID the music featured. One of the most popular tracks appeared in the final season of the series.

HBO’s Game of Thrones was a huge deal for fans in the final season. The series claimed two top songs of Tunefind and two Emmy wins for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Music Composition. GoT fan favorite songs were so meaningful over the years that we had to compile them to say goodbye as our watch ended.

Nine years later and we have to say goodbye to USA’s Suits, but fans will never forget all the incredible music from the legal drama. Consistently one of the most popular shows on Tunefind throughout the last decade, this show has helped fans discover new artists like Charles Bradley, Angus Stone, Fink, Kaleo and – of course – Ima Robot, and their earworm theme song, ‘Greenback Boogie.’

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer’s characters got into some wild activities on Comedy Central’s Broad City, a scripted series created and written by the lead stars. All their shenanigans featured fun, upbeat music from artists on the rise, like ‘Deceptacon’ by Le Tigre and ‘Crush on U’ by Bored Lord.
