Near the beginning of last week’s episode of 9-1-1, Maddie (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a concerning call from a distressed Tara (played by Ellen Hollman). SPOILER Alert! Tara’s husband, Vincent (played by Scott Speiser), has been shot. Maddie attempts to save him as the song slowly builds. Rosi Golan’s haunting voice comes in as the police arrive. A montage of EMTs transporting Vincent continues, with only the atmospheric sound of ‘Out of Control’ as Maddie looks on at the scene.

“This was a perfect example of how sometimes (often!) these moments come together by luck and magic,” shared 9-1-1 music supervisor Amanda Krieg Thomas.

The track stood out to Thomas while listening through a general submission email from one of her contacts – enough to put it on a “tone” playlist sent to the show’s editors at the start of the season. At that point there was no way to know if and when the right opportunity would even arise. Thankfully though it did, when the episode’s editor, Jesse Overman, cut it into the scene and found a perfect fit.

[Thomas recently shared some of her helpful sync tips with Tunefind in a two-part interview. She talks about the patience required in that waiting game, and even shares how you can help make sure your pitch emails don’t get lost in a music supervisor’s very full inbox.]

There’s not much information about Oshins online, other than a mysterious Spotify bio of “dark. cinematic. fresh.”

Lucas Arens, the producer/songwriter behind Oshins, told Tunefind, “I was so stoked to learn of the 9-1-1 placement. I’ve been aiming for a slot on the show since the project’s inception less than six months ago. My family has always been into medical and first responder dramas, so this one meant a lot!”

Arens is a Nashville and LA-based artist, producer, and songwriter who started creating under the Oshins moniker about 6 months ago. An artist project focused on darker, moodier music, Oshins is a contrast to some of Arens’ other work, which is spans pop, electronic, hip-hop/rap, and alternative.

In addition to composing original cinematic works, Arens often collaborates with other artists spanning numerous genres. In addition to his work with Golan on ‘Out of Control,’ other frequent collaborators include Jung Youth, Fjora, Alaina Cross, Willie Shaw, Hael, and The Brummies.

While ‘Out of Control’ was released in August 2019, it’s currently the only Oshins track available. But don’t worry. Fans of Oshins can follow him on Insta or Facebook to stay in the loop on some new music coming soon.

“I have a pack of new songs that will be dropping as a whole or as singles at the top of 2020,” Arens told Tunefind.

Indie singer/songwriter Rosi Golan has two LPs, Lead Balloon and The Drifter & the Gypsy, and two EPs, Fortuna and Collecting Bullets, released since 2008 on her own label, Gypsy Betch. Golan was born in Israel and lived in Germany and Paris before settling in Los Angeles. She got her start at open mics and then moved to New York City in 2003 to start recording her first demos. She began collaborating with other artists early on and released her first single ‘Let Me Out’ with British songwriter/producer Jamie Hartman.

Golan has toured with Greg Laswell, Ari Hest and Joshua Radin. Golan’s 2011 LP, Lead Balloon features Snow Patrol’s vocalist Gary Lightbody on ‘Everything Is Brilliant’ and guitarist David Rawlings on ‘Flicker’. ‘Can’t Go Back’ from Lead Balloon has been rerecorded by Little Big Town for their fifth studio album, Tornado.

Rosi Golan’s music has been featured in movies such as Dear John and Tiger Eyes, as well as numerous TV shows including Vampire Diaries, Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill and many commercial placements. Fun Fact: In 2007, Golan’s song ‘Shine’ became the worldwide theme for Pantene, replacing the long-running previous placement of Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Unwritten’.
