Top TV Song Last Week: Boys Wanna Be Her by Peaches

Taking over the most popular song this week is the season 2 finale of Amazon Prime’s The Boys. A punk rock/glam track from Canadian feminist musician Peaches takes the top spot. 

 

 

Near the end of the season finale, Peaches’ ‘Boys Wanna Be Her’ can be heard in the three-against-one battle between Starlight, Queen Maeve and Kimiko versus Stormfront. Frenchie watches the epic superhero fight and references an awful campaign for the women of the Seven from earlier in the season, stating, “Girls do get it done.”

‘Boys Wanna Be Her’ is the second single on Peaches’ third album, Impeach My Bush released in July 2006. A remix album has also been released with three remixed versions of the track. 

This iconic song has also been used in The Babysitter (2017) and on the Whip It (2009) official soundtrack album. Peaches has had many sync placements in film and television from Mean Girls (2004) to The Handmaid’s Tale.

Peaches–Merrill Nisker–is a musician, producer, director and performance artist. For over two decades Peaches has forged a bold path and paved the way for many others. 

Peaches began her career in the 1990s in a folk trio called Mermaid Cafe. In 1995, her rock band was established. In the same year she released her first solo album, Fancypants Hoodlum. 

Peaches moved to Berlin, Germany and initially signed with Kitty-Yo label and then moved to XL. She started shattering gender identity and ageism stereotypes in 2000 with her explosive debut album The Teaches of Peaches. She performed as the opening act for Marilyn Manson and Queens of the Stone Age. Peaches continued to release four more critically acclaimed albums. 

In 2009, Peaches’ sound moved in an electronic direction. Throughout her music career, Peaches collaborated with Iggy Pop, Daft Punk, Yoko Ono and many more legends. 

Peaches took a break from recording and appeared in a one-woman Jesus Christ Superstar production called Peaches Christ Superstar. In 2012, Peaches and her band the Sweet Machine performed a semi-biographical musical/concert film at the Toronto Film Festival, showcasing 22 songs from Peaches’ back catalog. In the same year, she also created a meta rock opera called Peaches Does Herself which followed her rise to fame. 

In 2015, she collaborated with photographer Holger Talinski to create a book called What Else Is in the Teaches of Peaches which documents her work in between albums. The same year, Peaches released her latest album called Rub.
