Lainey Wilson tops Billboard’s Top TV Song Chart

December’s artist spotlight is singer/songwriter and actress Lainey Wilson. Fans of Yellowstone have heard her voice sporadically since season 2 however, as of season 5, Lainey has joined the cast on screen to portray her character, Abby. Wilson had a whirlwind of a year in addition to joining one of the most popular casts in TV right now. She received a leading six nominations at the 56th Annual CMA Awards, becoming the fourth artist to receive six or more nominations as a first-time nominee.

Lainey Wilson topped Billboard’s December top TV songs chart with her most recent placement in Paramount’s Yellowstone. In a meta-occurrence of on-screen action, Wilson’s character, Abby, performs her song with the character’s fictional band. The performance takes place on the Yellowstone Dutton ranch, which the series is named after. ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ isn’t Lainey’s only placement in the episode, as her track ‘Hold My Halo’ is also heard later on in the episode. ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ currently boasts over 8 million streams on Spotify. 

December was a successful, sync-driven month for Wilson when she had a second track make the Billboard top TV songs chart. ‘Never Say Never’ by Cole Swindell and featuring Lainey Wilson, placed number 3 on that chart after placement in CBS’ Fire Country. The duet was released as the second single from Swindell’s fourth studio album, Stereotype, and became Wilson’s second single to top the Billboard country chart.

Lainey Wilson won the ACM New Female of the Year 2022 award and has gained the industry’s attention. The Louisiana native has been included on nearly every “Artist to Watch” list and named the “Top New Country Artist of 2021” by Billboard. She won CMT’s 2022 “Breakout Artist of the Year” award, and nearly ten years after leaving her small farming community in a camper trailer to pursue her dreams, she achieved her first number 1 track with her platinum-certified, ‘Things A Man Oughta Know.’ She has gained a devoted following for her distinctive sound and aesthetic associated with her latest album, Bell Bottom Country which combines traditional country with a contemporary yet retro flair.
