Back at the top of Tunefind’s trending music chart is another song from the popular HBO series, The Last of Us. The most popular song last week is a cover version of a song from an English rock band recreated by an American singer/songwriter.
‘True Faith’ by Lotte Kestner closes out the fourth episode and is heard during the end credits. Another song featured in episode 4 also appeared at the No. 2 spot on Tunefind’s trending chart.
Lotte Kestner’s cover of ‘True Faith’ inspired another version covered by actress Ashley Johnson (in-character as Ellie) in a trailer for The Last of Us: Part II video game. The original version of the song by New Order was co-written and co-produced by the band and producer Stephen Hague in 1987. Lotte Kestner’s cover version was released on her 2011 sophomore album, Stolen.
Lotte Kestner is a stage name for Seattle-based musician Anna-Lynne Williams. As Williams, she has spent the last decade as the singer/songwriter of Trespassers William, an indie rock band with guitarist/keyboardist Matt Brown, forming the duo in 1997. Williams was also a member of the duo Ormonde with Robert Gomez and began her solo recordings as Lotte Kestner in 2007.
Kestner’s solo music includes elements of folk music and relies on multi-layer vocals. To date, Kestner has released 11 albums, an EP in 2022, and multiple singles. Her latest album, Lost Songs was released last week on her own label Saint-Loup Records and is a collection of previously unreleased or unfinished recordings from the last decade.
Anna-Lynne Williams is featured on the Chemical Brothers song, ’Hold Tight London’ from the 2005 Grammy-winning album, Push the Button. Williams has collaborated with numerous other artists, including Delerium, AFI, Moow, Damien Jurado, Motopony, Anomie Belle, Blue Sky Black Death, Sadistik, and more.
